Surprise! Although once thought of as a frozen, silent, slumbering piece of ice, Pluto stunned the scientific world with a tremendous variety of landscapes, materials, and perhaps one of the most active, changeable worlds in our Solar System. Data and images from the New Horizon's spacecraft have been arriving over the past 18 months, revealing mountain ranges of water ice, frozen lakes and flowing glaciers made of nitrogen, and signs of great changes in its atmosphere and climate over billions of years. Mark Breen, the Director of the Lyman Spitzer, Jr. Planetarium at the Fairbanks Museum will share what astronomers are still learning about this famous dwarf planet. But, is this just the beginning? New Horizon's has already made plans to visit an even more distant world, sure to reveal even more about the mysteries of our distant Solar System neighbors.
Mark Breen is the Senior Meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, and for over 30 years he has been heard on Vermont Public Radio's an "Eye on the Sky" each weekday morning, and Eye on the Night Sky in the afternoon. He is also the author of the award-winning children’s book, “The Kid’s Book of Weather Forecasting”. Date: 05/11/2016 (Wed.) Instructor Wendy Reese presents a FREE program January 24th 1 to 3pm Roger Clark Memorial Library Pittsfield, VT Make 2016 your best year ever. Join us for this vision board class. Seeing is believing, so put your intentions and dreams in a visible space to see daily by creating a vision board. The idea is simple- just like an Olympic athlete "visualizes" performing their activity and winning the gold, when we create intentions for how we want to feel in our life and start to put images to that, we have something to visually remind us on a daily basis when we look at it. The workshop is designed to help participants focus on on their goals and then create a vision board to represent those goals/dreams. Bring your magazines and a pair of scissors. We will provide a workbook, poster board, glue, and other fun supplies necessary to craft your vision board. This program is completely free, but sign ups are required. Wendy normally charges $35 for this program but is donating her time and knowledge to support our community and our library. If you'd like to support Pittsfield's 100% volunteer library donations of time or money are always welcome, especially time. GREAT TURN OUT, THANKS EVERYONE! SEE PHOTOS ON OUR NEWS PAGE!
