Half-Time Library Professional, Roger Clark Memorial Library (Pittsfield, VT)

The Roger Clark Memorial Library is seeking an outgoing, enthusiastic, self-motivated half-time Library Professional to become the new face of RCML. This library spokesperson, under the supervision of the Board of Trustees, will be responsible for the administration, supervision and coordination a new library schedule, current and new materials, and services and program development for community members of all ages, while carrying out the policies adopted by the Library Board of Trustees.


This is a brand new paid position for our “volunteer run since 1901” library. It is a great opportunity for someone looking for a change of pace. Starting at $15 per hour with a negotiable 20-hr per week schedule, incorporating one evening and Saturdays. (See full job description below)
Minimum Qualifications-Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree or a willingness to work toward an equivalent degree or VT library certification
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Willingness to learn
  • Comfortable working with computers, online, and network applications
  • Ability to plan, organize, and perform work assignments with initiative and judgment, independently or with minimal supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with Board and the public
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Developing procedures for the smooth running of the library and circulation desk
  • Creating, overseeing, promoting and publicizing the scheduling, as well as the use of the library services and resources
  • Providing community outreach for volunteer recruitment
  • Developing and executing programs that appeal to a variety of ages and interest
  • Maintaining and updating the collection with current materials in various formats
  • Keeping areas and collections neat, clean and organized
  • Participating in monthly trustees meeting
  • Providing regular, written reports of library activity for the board of trustees, the town, and the state, including: Collecting, reporting, and analyzing library statistics
  • Following policies adopted by the Board of Trustees, makes suggestions for changes as needed, and proposing ideas for the future
  • Maintaining interlibrary loan
  • Spending and monitoring budgeted funds in a responsible manner
  • Working closely with the library treasurer to develop an annual budget for adoption by the Board of Trustees, receive and pass on cash donations, fees, and other funds and review bills for approval or payment
  • Attending workshops, continuing education programs, library conferences and other professional training opportunities
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

​Hand Lettering is a combination of art, design, and typography.  Colleen Wilcox is an artist and the founder of Wander On Words, a small business focused on hand-lettering. She uses her lettering to create inspirational designs with words and transforms them into cards, prints, and apparel. Colleen strives to be constantly creating in order to inspire, spread positivity, and rekindle a love for nature in others.
