Now here's the behind the scenes story of what it takes to make that happen.
After the idea was approved in our monthly meeting volunteer Traci Templeton took on the task of making it happen. She coordinated ad space in the local paper, she secured movie licensing, and she picked up a copy of the movie itself. Meanwhile volunteer Sharon Mayer wrote a press release and copy that Angelique Lee used when she designed a newspaper ad and posters. Then we all hung them around town.
What else? Well Traci borrowed a projector and speakers from Kim & Jason at the Clear River Tavern (thanks Kim and Jason!), a popcorn machine from the local school (thanks Gail!), and purchased a new 12 x 12 tent for the library. She picked up extension cords, lemonade mix, coolers and popcorn cups too.
The night of the movie was when the group effort really came together and we worked together as a community. Some families set up games, others put tables out, Carl Oertell showed up with his ladder to put the outdoor movie screen up on the library wall, Sharon organized the deserts, Angelique mixed the lemonade, Susie stopped by to take care of a few financial details.
And what was the final result? A great community event. Something adults and kids could (and did) enjoy. A chance for neighbors to get together. A chance to watch a feature movie under the open sky right here in our home town. A chance to feel great about the community we live in.
And so, a hearty thank you to Traci, Angelique, Sharon, Karen, Carl, Jason, Kim and all the others who made this happen.
It's not hard to volunteer, it's not complicated, but there sure is a lot to do. Join us at our next meeting if you'd like to help.
