I was happy to take charge of Angelique's Block Printing program, as she is working so hard for our children in other ways! Thank you Angelique! April is Poetry Month, and to inspire the kids for their block print designs, I read some poetry having to do with signs of Spring. The kids sketched their initial drawings on paper and then traced them to styrofoam plates. We worked with primary colors to come up with awesome color combos and went to work rolling, pressing, and pulling. It was incredible to watch the energy build as each kid's print was revealed and they set off to start a new drawing. Once they got the hang of it, there was no stopping them. Eunice took the troops that were done with their prints out to the playground while some happy printers stayed behind for more printmaking. Once again, thank you to the parents and grandparents who helped out. This program could not run so smooth without you! This ends our After school Spring program, what a huge success!~ great kids, great parents, great programs, great library! We look forward to seeing you in the Fall. Remember, I am always looking for ideas, people interested in running a program, and parent volunteers. Have a great summer, see you at the library. -traci This is your new blog post. Roger Clark Memorial Library had a great turn out for it's After School Program- Cooking with Eunice! Things were a little sticky, a little gooey, and a bit dark. That's right, we weathered the loss of electricity just fine, eventually the lights came back on and our cooks followed Eunice and her recipe of Homemade Pretzels with excitement. Lots of "ews" and "gross" were heard as the kids mixed the yeast to the hot water, then they added the flour and were off to the end result- delicious pretzels topped with cinnamon sugar and/or salt. There were a lot of great pretzel designs and I was impressed with how well everyone worked together adding, mixing, stirring, and rolling- thank you to Eunice and all the parents who lent a helping hand. -traci Dear RCML Patrons and Supporters,
You may recall our recent letter expressing our concern regarding the uncertainty of an appropriate space being allotted for the Roger Clark Memorial Library in the proposed renovation of the Town Office and Library Building. Our concern was that in spite of site work, the basement might eventually prove to be as inappropriate for the Library as it had become for the Town Clerk's Office. We are happy to report that our concerns were considered. At a recent meeting of the Selectmen and the plan architect, Mark McManus, we learned that after a review of rules and regulations pertaining to the permitting process, the architect was able to suggest a revision of the plan that would allow the Library to occupy the second floor of the existing building. The Town Clerk's Office would proceed to occupy the ground floor and the basement would initially be left vacant. Were it eventually proven to be damp proof, it could then be converted to usable space. A lift would be installed in the building to make the Library's space on the second floor handicapped accessible and provisions would be made to extend the lift to the basement should that space prove usable in the future. The revisions to the plan do not pose a significant change in the proposed cost of the project. The Town of Pittsfield will be putting forward a bond vote on the project in the near future. The Trustees of the Roger Clark Memorial Library are pleased to have had our concerns addressed and wish once again to thank the select board and the building committee for the time and effort they have given to this issue. A public meeting will be held at the Town Hall on April 26th, we have posted the official warning of the meeting and vote on our community page. For the past two years Pittsfield's Roger Clark Memorial Library's annual fund-raising dinner has been a sold out event. Jason Evans will again host the event at the Clear River Tavern, on Wednesday, May 12th at 5:30 pm. The evening will feature internationally themed hors d’oeuvres and food stations instead of a sit-down dinner, so more of the completely volunteer run library's supporters can attend. There will be something to suit everyone’s taste, children too. The now famous Library Dessert Buffet will make its annual appearance as our board members and volunteers try to out do each other with confections worthy of their own event. There will be entertainment for kids, and creative literary cocktails for adults. Over the past year The Library has increased its efforts to purchase more current NYT and independent bestselling books for adults and kids. The collection reflects the reading interests of patrons. At this year's dinner you can help by sponsoring a book from their wish list of bestsellers, favorite authors, young adult and kids books. Each sponsored book will be placed in the library’s collection and contain a book plate recognizing the sponsor. The sponsor gets to be the first one to check out the book. Reservations may be made ($18 adults, $8 kids 12 and under) by using our on line form, e mailing the library at [email protected], with any of the Trustees, or by calling the library at 746-4067 and leaving a message. |
