As you may know, the future of the Roger Clark Memorial Library's space in the current town office building is uncertain. We are asking for your help.
February 16th is the last selectboard meeting before Town Meeting. We feel it is the last opportunity to provide constructive input in the planning process that will determine the library's future.
In a recent town survey about ½ of respondents chose the option of renovating the current Town Office and Library building, about ¼ supported a new smaller building, and about ¼ asked that other options be explored. It is our understanding that based on these results the selectboard plans to put a plan to a bond vote that would cost close to $800,000 dollars, and move our library into the basement.
We would like to ask that the town explore other options before putting this to a vote. We know for some the 7 year process of developing a plan for this building has been drawn out and frustrating, but we feel it is important to continue to explore options. During this 7 year process our library has changed, 3 years ago it was closed, today it has become a vibrant and growing resource for our community.
PLEASE come to the selectboard meeting on February 16th at the Pittsfield Town Hall at 6pm to support the many library volunteers and to show the Pittsfield town officers how important our library is to our community.
